Career Mobilization Project
EXCEL!’s Career Mobilization
Project seeks to introduce innovative and replicable strategies and
techniques to improve employment opportunities for people with
disabilities. This effort is enhanced by the involvement of a
growing number of private sector employers and Federal, state, and
local government agencies. The Career Mobilization Project has
employment networking, counseling, mentoring, computer training, and
outreach components.
Employment Networking Activities
EXCEL! sponsors monthly
meetings showcasing presentations on career opportunities by human
resource professionals from companies like Verizon, SunTrust Bank,
Inova Health System, SAIC, Freddie Mac, Manpower Inc., and Kaiser
Permanente and organizations like AARP, George Washington
University, American Council on Education, and Greater Washington
Society of Association Executives. Other EXCEL! meetings focus on
employment prospects in Federal, state, and local government
agencies.
Each meeting begins with a networking session, in which
participants introduce themselves and discuss their career
objectives and qualifications. Employer representatives are
available at the end of the sessions to talk with members about job
openings and to take resumes. An EXCEL! computer listserv and
newsletter keep members updated on the latest job openings and
organizational activities. |
