Counseling/Mentoring Programs

EXCEL! provides periodic job search workshops facilitated by professional career counselors. These workshops deal with topics like self-assessment, job targeting, resume-writing, networking, interviewing, and negotiation. EXCEL! also seeks to match new members with employed members in informal mentoring relationships.

EXCEL!’s counseling/mentoring program further benefits from the active participation of Morris Associates, a prominent career counseling and outplacement firm, the Five O’Clock Club, a job search strategy group animated by professional career counselors, and the Association of Career Professionals International (ACP). EXCEL! has profited from a long-standing partnership with ACP, whose members have provided workshops, mentoring, and one-on-one counseling.

Computer Training Programs

EXCEL! works closely with The CURE Network (www.cure.org), another local disability self-help group, to train members in computer operating systems and applications, tailored to the needs of people with disabilities. CURE also provides assistive technology counseling and education. EXCEL! and CURE seek to develop this computer training program to help meet the critical skilled worker shortage in the Washington metropolitan area.
