Outreach Activities

EXCEL! is rapidly developing professional relationships with private- and public-sector employers, counselors and human resource organizations, business associations, and other disability groups. In 1999, EXCEL! established its Senior Board of Advisers, composed of employer representatives, career counselors, and foundation professionals, to expand and promote its employment programs. Most recently, EXCEL! has developed an active partnership with local Rotary Clubs as employment and mentoring resources.

EXCEL! actively participates in Business Leadership Network activities in Virginia, DC, and Maryland. In 2002, EXCEL! ran a series of employer focus groups to make recommendations on creating an employer network committed to hiring more people with disabilities. EXCEL! is also developing a replicable model of an employment self-help group (under a grant from the Kellar Institute on Human Disabilities, George Mason University).
